weeknotes for w/c 11/11/24

i have been horrendously busy since Sunday, so this is a... Wednesday update.

• past me is super smart! i took Monday off to finish my HalfStack talk. i've been feeling down a bit, but i think i'm recovering my mojo. did some talk prep on Monday night with Hugh Evans, and he gave me a new sticker for my laptop!
• wasted an hour on the phone to the General Registry Office on Tuesday. they sent me the wrong birth certificate, and i told me to i needed to reorder from my local council. i've lodged a complaint, and hope it goes somewhere.
• managed to get some more work done on my talk on Tuesday.
• saw Randall Munroe at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Tuesday night with a friend, got a signed copy of his 10th anniversary edition of what if? i don't even have the original, but i'm excited to read it
• i want to get my broken headphones repaired, rather than replaced, so i called Sony’s repair centre and they sent me a form and gave me an address. packaged and posted off my headphones on Saturday using a self service parcel box.
  • to print the repair centre form and the labels for postage, i had to buy some printer ink for £50! that is ridiculous
  • irritatingly, the first parcel box listed near my house simply... didn't exist? i had to head to another one, as it was so damn late. regardless, it was pretty cool to use
• went to HalfStack on Wednesday and presented my talk. i think i did really well. i also started on the companion blog post for the conference talk
• lost my glasses on the way back from HalfStack. i submitted an enquiry though TfL’s lost pretty property system, and i hope the find them lol. i really hope their lost property system aren’t affected by the cyberattack that seems to be going on for forever
• continued making my way through On Anarchism
• planned a new, rather large project for next week at work, did a bunch of white boarding meetings. excited to make an impact in the coming weeks.
• met with my CBF mentee for the first time this week. we got to know each other, and outlined some goals for the mentorship so we could the most out of it
• started watching Silo again, as series 2 has been released. the first episode was a little disappointing, and i didn’t make it all the way through
• got a COVID vaccine on Saturday
• went to a hack day on Sunday! it's good to build for fun and not for profit
